Reach Wahab Sahab Shrine, Awantipora and briefing

Arrive at Wahab Sahab Shrine near Awantipora, the trailhead for the Wasturwan ridge. After a short break, the trek leader runs a detailed briefing on the route, pace, weather and Gujjar grazing etiquette. Final gear checks and water top up before stepping into the forest.

Climb through the forest
Time: 11:00 AM
A sustained climb through deep coniferous forest used by local Gujjar communities for summer grazing. The gradient is mostly shallow with steeper sections in between. Expect bird calls, occasional cattle and quiet trail conversations as we gain altitude steadily towards the treeline.

Reach Wasturwan Top
Time: 12:30 PM
Step out of the forest into the open Wasturwan meadows at around 2,950 m, with views across South and Central Kashmir, the entire Pir Panjal and the larger Himalayan ranges on a clear day. Time at the top for photos, a packed lunch by the Gujjar dokas and a long pause to take in the ridge.

Descent back to Awantipora
Time: 02:00 PM
Begin the descent through the same forest trail at a relaxed pace. The return is mostly downhill and faster than the climb. Carry back all waste, follow forest etiquette and stay with the group. Reach the Wahab Sahab Shrine trailhead by late afternoon.

Depart Awantipora and drive back to Srinagar
Time: 05:30 PM
Board the vehicle at Awantipora for the return drive to Srinagar via the National Highway. A short tea stop on the way. Drop at Ahdoos Hotel by around 7:30 PM, marking the end of a full day on one of South Kashmir's most prominent ridges.

- Wasturwan is graded Moderate. There are no technical sections, but the climb is sustained with around 1,300 to 1,400 m of altitude gain in a single day. Fit beginners who can comfortably walk 6 to 8 hours and intermediate trekkers will enjoy it. Anyone with a regular fitness routine can complete it at our pace.
- Where exactly is Wasturwan Top located?
- Wasturwan is a forested ridge and meadow system above Tral and Awantipora in Pulwama district, South Kashmir. The summit sits at around 2,950 m and dominates the South Kashmir skyline. We use the Wahab Sahab Shrine trailhead near Awantipora.
- How far is Wasturwan from Srinagar?
- From Srinagar (Ahdoos Hotel) to the Awantipora trailhead is roughly 40 to 45 km, around 1.5 to 2 hours by road on the National Highway. We leave at 6:00 AM to make the most of the cooler morning hours for the climb.

- The Wasturwan trek is roughly 16 to 18 km to and fro, with 6 to 8 hours of total walking. Total altitude gain is around 1,300 to 1,400 m from the valley floor to the meadow top at 2,950 m. The climb is mostly through forest with the final stretch opening into open meadows.

- The ideal window is April to October. Spring and early summer give green forest and wildflowers, monsoon brings dramatic clouds and fast changing weather, and September to October offers the clearest views over the Pir Panjal and South Kashmir.
