Reach Babagil village and briefing

Time: 09:00 AM

Arrive at Babagil village near the army camp. After a short break, the trek guide conducts a detailed briefing about the trail, safety protocols and wildlife etiquette inside Limber Wildlife Sanctuary. Permits arranged in advance are verified at the army post before the trek begins.

Reach Babagil Waterfall

Time: 12:00 PM

Reach Babagil Waterfall after a 7 to 8 km forest hike one way from the starting point. The stream drops through a narrow rocky gap into a clear pool surrounded by lush green slopes. Spend time at the falls, take photographs and enjoy the solitude of this hidden spot inside the sanctuary.

Packed lunch and relaxation at the waterfall

Enjoy a packed lunch by the stream above the waterfall pool. This is a relaxed hour to soak in the forest atmosphere, refill water bottles and listen to the trek leader share stories about the Markhor conservation efforts and Boniyar's border tourism history. No litter, no loud music, leave no trace.

Descent back to Babagil village

Time: 02:00 PM

Begin the descent through the same forest trail at a relaxed pace. The return is mostly downhill and takes less time. Carry back all waste, follow forest rules and stay with the group. Reach Babagil village by late afternoon.

Depart Babagil and drive back to Srinagar

Time: 05:00 PM

Board the vehicle at Babagil village by 5:00 PM for the return drive to Srinagar. The route passes through Boniyar and Baramulla with a tea stop on the way. Drop at the Jawahar Nagar pickup point by around 8:00 PM, marking the end of a full day inside one of Kashmir's least visited sanctuaries.

Yes. The Babagil Waterfall trek is graded Easy to Moderate, with a 14 to 16 km round trip on a clear forest trail. Anyone with basic fitness who can walk 3 to 4 hours on undulating forest paths can complete it. We pace the group for first time trekkers and families with older children.
Where exactly is Babagil Waterfall located?
Babagil Waterfall sits inside Limber Wildlife Sanctuary in Boniyar block, Baramulla district, North Kashmir. The trail starts near Babagil village and the local army camp, deep inside the sanctuary that protects the rare Markhor goat.
How far is Babagil Waterfall from Srinagar and Baramulla?
From Srinagar it is roughly 80 to 90 km, around 2 to 2.5 hours by road via Baramulla and Boniyar. From Baramulla town it is about 25 km. Pickups are offered from both cities depending on group size.
Do I need a permit to visit Babagil Waterfall?
Yes. Babagil sits close to the Line of Control and inside a notified eco sensitive zone. A border permit from Boniyar tehsil with police approval is required and is checked at the Babagil army post. Limber Wildlife Sanctuary rules also apply. We arrange these permits as part of the trek. All guests must carry a valid government photo ID.
What is the best season for the Babagil Waterfall trek?
The ideal window is April to October, when the access road is clear, the forest is green and the stream is flowing strongly. Spring and early autumn offer the best mix of weather, wildflowers and visibility. We do not run this trek in deep winter.
Are wildlife sightings possible inside Limber Wildlife Sanctuary?
Limber Wildlife Sanctuary protects around 20 mammal species including the rare Markhor, Himalayan musk deer, brown bear and leopard, plus around 120 bird species. Sightings of larger mammals are possible but never guaranteed. Guests must keep distance, avoid feeding and follow the trek leader's instructions at all times.
Is the trek safe given the proximity to the LoC?
Yes. The Babagil sector is opened to visitors only with an active army post controlling access. We move only with valid permits, in guided groups, on the approved trail and within daylight hours. Loud music, alcohol and drone use are not allowed.
